Question / Help Poor Microphone Quality

Hey Everyone,

When I stream with OBS it picks up my microphone at really low quality. I've tested the Skype call I'm in and I sound fine with Skype but OBS I always sound bad. Here is an example http://www.twitch.tv/pandacraze/c/2587708 and go to 2:17:00 and you can hear it pretty well. Someone suggested having OBS set microphone to mono but that didn't seem to make a difference. Any thoughts?

Sounds about normal for a gaming headset mic. You do have some clipping, try to reduce any mic gain / boost options and increase the base volume.

OK, I'll give that a shot. But why do I sound clear on Skype, as clear as the other people in my call, but in OBS it comes out bad?

I agree with R1CH, the quality is about what can be expected from a gaming headset. I can make out what you're saying just fine.

Regarding Skype -- Skype does apply some filters to the mic input to deal with background noise and such. That may be what's causing it to sound differently. But I wouldn't worry about it too much either way, you still sound perfectly fine. May just indeed need some tweaks to the volume and boosts. Not sure which headset it is but if it's a USB headset it may have custom options for you to toy around with as well which may improve the clarity.
