Question / Help Pixelated stream when movement is involved

Hello there,

I would need input as to why my stream looks blurry/pixelated when movement is involved. I have a non-partnered channel, but have a setup that would pretty much allow me to stream 1080p@30fps easily.

Thing is, my stream looks blurry and pixelated when playing high movement games. I would need some help in order to have the best quality as performance won't be an issue.

Setup
CPU : i7 5930k OC
GPU : Dual GTX 980ti (EVGA SC+)
Resolution : 1440p (actually a tri-monitor setup)
Stream resolution 720p@30FPS
OS : Windows 10
RAM : 32Gb DDR4
Bandwidth : 50mbps effective upload

Currently using 3000 bitrate, slow x264 profile and playing around with buffer size and CBR on/off.

No frameloss to be reported and games run at 60+ FPS maxed while the stream is running.

Thanking you in advance for your answers !

Set your buffer size the same as the bitrate and leave CBR and badding checked.

Best bet is to post a link to your logfile

Do you have a VOD of the pixelation you're getting? Some games (Arma 3, Witcher 3, etc) with severe amounts of ground-clutter will KILL the encoder, and effectively will pixelate without a ridiculous bits-per-pixel density.
There's also the possibility of user-expectation, as no stream will ever be 1:1 perfect.

OBS Classic also tends to have significant issues with SLI rigs, due to how the VRAM memory pool is handled (as OBS uses VRAM for scaling/compositing/etc). Studio has some multi-adapter compatibility code, but you might try disabling SLI and see if the situation improves.

Also, if you're streaming to Twitch you MUST set your Keyframe Interval in Settings->Advanced to 2; it's currently at default, which will cause issues with the Twitch player and ingests.

Thank you for your answer.

You can see some fresh VODs with settings switched between medium to slow encoding presets, with little to no difference. All at 3200kbps.

Compared to other non-partnered BDO streamers, the quality really isn't up to par. Should I try deactivating my SLI ? If so, is it possible to run the game on one card and assign the other one to OBS ?
