Question / Help Performance tweaking questions

I don’t have a log file to include as this is an inquiry onto performance increase before deep diving into trouble shooting.

Recently I decided to get into streaming. I got a new gaming rig/PC:

9900k/2080ti/32gb ram.

my primary monitor is a 27inch 1440p 144hz
My secondary monitor is a rotated 1080x1920 60hz monitor so it shows chat and obs in a reading pane style.

Ive noticed when playing music in the background on my second monitor 60hz, while playing a game and streaming my OBS starts stuttering and says Encoder Overloaded. If I close the tab or move it behind my primary 144hz monitor it has no issues.

alternatively if I have a copy of my stream or obs preview up on the 60hz, it says encoder overloaded also. If I disable both of those or move to primary monitor, the message goes away and stuttering/frame drops stop.

for clarification is there something I can do beside stack it behind my monitor or only use a single monitor? I am going to guess it has to do with the graphics card having to decide refresh rate into two separate rates and OBS being forced into windows forcing 60hz if not playing in Fullscreen?

would a second 144hz monitor help? If I did get a second 144hz monitor: would I run into the same problem getting one thats 1920x1080? Just trying to get things buttery smooth. On Twitches side it looks amazing, so I know it’s not being hindered too much. The overloaded encoder is just dropping every 55th frame of the 60fps it’s running. However I can feel it on my end and just trying to understand how to solve that issue and understand better.

thank you!

This is Windows bug that is fixed in the 2020 preview build. So if you wait, it will eventually be fixed, or running both monitors at the same refresh rate (upgrading to 144 Hz) would also work.

thanks for the reply! just curious, are there any snags with using OBS in the preview build? I obviously know there are always issues and complications that arise from preview software, but is it just a windows upgrade that fixes the problem or is it going to be an OBS update for when they push a fix or it will just work :)

I can't say for sure what issues you may run into with the preview build, OBS shouldn't need any updates to work with it though.
