Question / Help Performance: Stream Monitor vs Stream Game

Hi,

For some reason i think that "Stream Game" is better in terms of performance and stream quality than "Stream Monitor" and play with games in windowed mode. Is that true? or i can stream monitor with the same quality and performance that i have when i "stream game".

Under Windows 7, Monitor Capture is extremely bad and should be avoided at all costs. It can actually cause in-game issues with many games (I had one where the game was slowed to about 7fps thanks to Monitor Capture).

Game or Window Capture (with Aero ON) is strongly advised as the methods to use if at all possible. If you HAVE to capture in Monitor mode (still not recommended), it's advised that you use Game Capture on the DWM process, which will capture your primary monitor (only) with decent performance.

Windows 8, Monitor capture works OK. I still personally don't recommend it, to avoid having unintended things show up on-stream (personal details get leaked a lot this way).

Monitor capture under Windows 8 is one of the best methods to capture your desktop. If your game runs fine in windowed or borderless mode you can normally use Monitor capture (if you also want to show other Windows for example). If the game only has fullscreen support or you want to hide other windows, you should use Game Capture. And last but not least, a window capture of a borderless / windowed game will perform good as well, as long as Aero is active.
