Pause recording?

I have Version 28.1.1, and once i start a recording, I no longer see the double-bars pause recording button on that recording control. ??
I have seem the notes about streaming affecting this, but I have not done any setup or ever used streaming.
I have the Simple output mode.
AH - found it - change the recording mode from "same as streaming" to file quality...
(I don't know how to delete this query!)

I'm using OBS Studio 29.0.0, and just to make it crystal clear for anyone else dealing with this problem:
In Settings, go to Output > Recording > Recording Settings > Encoder
Change "(Use stream encoder)" to some other option, i.e. x264

Check that the recording quality or encoder are not set to "Same as Stream" in the advanced tab. Pause recording is not possible if the encoder is set to Same as Stream.
