Pause button is gone

I can only stop recordings and start a new one, the pause button is gone. Please see screenshot

I am a newbie and know nothing about the history of this button. But I will be recording a presentation and having a pause feature would be very helpful so I could takes breaks and sips of water during my narration. Is this pause feature still available somehow, i.e., via keyboard shortcuts?

While others were apparently unsuccessful at it, I was able to establish hot keys (under settings) to pause and unpause.

The pause function is incompatible with the "Same as Stream" as well as "custom ffmpeg output" settings for recording.
