Question / Help Overlay Channels / Static Keying

Hi Jim and everyone,

I just spent a few days with OBS and it is a master piece! Almost the perfect broadcasting tools that I am looking for years!

I read through quite a lot of resources and youtube in using the software, however, I failed to find a way to make some fix overlay in OBS. e.g. a logo or a name that will not fade away even I switch the scene. This is a function in vMix called "overlay channels" or "keying with media player" in blackmagic that perform something similar. Just a simple fade-in / fade-out effect shall do.

This is particular useful when you are giving a name tag to somebody or a static logo without putting that logo in all scene. I guess there might be some plugin able to do this but seems that I am out of luck, so I am seeking for help from the community. Thanks in advance for any piece of help!

The industry term for this is "downstream key (DSK)". You can accomplish this by creating a scene that has your overlay elements present, and then add that scene as a source to the other scenes where you want it displayed. It's not perfect, but is a viable workaround. We are aware that there are definitely some use cases where a proper DSK would be useful, but no ETA on if or when this would be added.

Just tried it out, it works! Toggling the Visible / Hidden button together with Studio mode combined to make a sensible workflow. Although not as initiative as it means to be but still a very handy workaround! Thanks Fenrir once again for your quick reply!

I am using my hotkeys (T for titles) to show and hide three layers at once (in the preview window). Then I use hotkey C to make the cut.

But a keyer (or DSK) would be nice. Preferable with a Fill and Key so I can play a TGA 32bit sequence or a movieclip with Fill and Key.
If this is possible, I can switch a scene underneath the active Keyer and make a beautiful transition.
