Question / Help Optimizing Settings

Let me first say thank you for making such a great program available for recording. It is definitely a step above all the other programs I've tried, and produces much better results.

I am trying to do a screen recording of a light show. The problem I am having is that the picture is a little more pixelated than I wanted and the audio is about 1/4 a beat off. I have the option of recording on either a 1920x1080 monitor or 2560x1440. I am running a 4ghz AMD FX-8350 8 core processor, 16gb of ram, AMD Radeon r9 380 series gfx card. I run the audio from a Focusrite 2i4 interface.

When I am rendering, I run the following software, OBS, Ableton Live, Reaper, MA2PC, and MA3d. While recording the CPU jumps up to about 45% usage - which I imagine should be fine. The RAM is maybe 30-35%.

Here are my settings for OBS:

Can anybody make any suggestions for optimizing my settings and getting rid of the Audio sync problem especially? Here is a link to the video:

global audio offset to somewhere between 80 and 100ms. this will delay the sound by that much prior to bringing the AV together.

If its grainy, I would not downscale to 540p. instead try to downscale to 720p or even leave it with no downscale.

I dont use process priority high, instead, normal or above normal at most. make sure your cores on that FX8350 aren't parking, get an unparking utility which should help.

set a custom buffer size to 0, and if your CPU usage gets high, change to preset to superfast.

check above as well which will help with the crf= command. again, this will be used for local recording not streaming. I would say crf 18 should be about the highest you would want.

This definitely solved the problem with audio, but I changed all those other settings and I am not seeing any difference in picture quality - which isn't bad, I just feel like it could be better. I experimented with a few crf values as well. Did not see any difference from 15 to 5.

I saw what you said there about superfast. Are you suggesting I go above the superfast setting in the x264 CPU preset?
