Question / Help Opening Automatically Starts Stream?

2/4 times that I've opened OBS today it has immediately started streaming. Without me pressing any buttons to my knowledge.

I'm new to streaming and have been playing with my setup trying to figure out the ideal place to put my very narrow angle webcam for the best possible appearance. I opened OBS so that I could see the preview as I moved things around, and to my surpise I had been live for 31 minutes. I ensured the program was closed entirely, and later on decided to work on my scenes a bit more. Thinking I may have just accidently pressed the "Start Streaming" button previously, I didn't think to open my Twitch Dashboard. But the same thing happened, at least this time I was only live for 7 minutes. What could cause this to happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To prevent this sort of thing from happening, go to the General category.
Enable the "Show confirmation dialog when starting streams option". This dialog box will appear:

That way at least it doesn't automatically start streaming without your consent.

As of why it happened, thats difficult to determine. The only cases I see this happening if:
1) You clicked on the Start Stream button
2) You have a hotkey assigned to the Start Stream and you triggered it
3) You tabbed over to the Start Stream button and hit the Space key

Also.... I see in your Scene names, you place Fn after each. I assume these are hotkeys for you to remind you to trigger a scene.

You shouldn't use hotkeys like F1, F2, etc. Instead, use a dual keypress like CTRL+F1, CTRL+number, or ALT+Fn. Never stuff like Fn, ALT+letter or CTRL+letter as those are commonly found on application program menus and can also be used in games. You can also solve this by using a special keypad or something like Elgato Stream Machine.

Thank you! I checked my hotkeys and it turns out I had a mute key overlapped with a start streaming hotkey that I don't remember setting. I likely ended up testing my hotkeys without knowing. Unfortunately there's no warning dialogue that alerts the user when you have hotkeys overlapped with vital function like starting or ending a stream. But I guess as long as you're not me and you're careful it wouldn't be an issue. Thank you so much for the help!
