Question / Help Once last try. Cant run OBS with my headphones

So far I have to say one of the worst support forums I have ever been to. Not even any replies not even to ask maybe for more information regarding the issue. I get more help from customer support from India and can't even understand them but at least they try to help. I have had two issues and have yet to have any person to attempt to help 1 issue I found out was the website nothing to do with OBS but my main issue is still unsolved and I got prompt help with the other issue from the support from The other website. My first post about the issue was August 11th it's now September 3. Out of my three posts asking for help, not one person has even attempted to help.

My Issue
If I use head phones it will not record game sound and my game sound will not play in my live streams. To record game sound and have it in my live stream, I have to have my speaker I use plugged in. But I can't do that really because of the other people around and the echo I get because my mic picking up the speaker. I need headphones. I can not have any headphones plugged in at all if I want any game sound recorded or live streamed. I need this fixed as I can't really live stream or record without headphones.

You didn't state WHAT headphones you were using and you didn't post an obs session log from the sessions where you were having trouble.

Support for this free software is provided by volunteers, for free. Nobody is obligated to help you and in none of your previous duplicate threads did you post a log (instructions are at the top of the forum and in bold red text every time you create a new thread).

It's any headphones that is why I said Headphones. It works with none.In my first and second attempt to get help I posted that I mainly tried with my Astros but since then and the reason for this post It doses not work with any headphones.

That is my point. even if I did not post something that was needed to get help someone could have said we need a log or asked for more information. If I happened to miss where it asked for a log fire as I never saw it any BOLD red text.It does not matter if this is free and acting like you think someone complaining about not getting help when it been nearly a month is just some person who is Entitled then why post something other places saying use this website as the main place for tech service? I understand volunteers have things to do but after basically a month with not 1 single reply, I don't consider that your volunteers have the time to be volunteers if it takes something like this post to finally get a response. It's not like wanting someone to reply in less than almost a month in the "official OBS tech support forums is something unreasonable to ask and the only reason I got any kind of reply is because I posted the way I did and incited a response finally. it's bad when that is the only way to get someone to reply to a post of needing help.

This log shows Realtek Speakers (your onboard audio) selected under Settings > Audio. Don't Astros use a USB connection and show up as their own separate audio device? Is OBS configured to record the correct device?

No, These do not. it shows up as Realtek high definition speakers even in my audio mixer on my computer when they are plugged in so it is configured right. I do not have any headphones that use USB. These use the standard 3.5 cable These are the Astro gaming A40 TR pc Gaming Headset. The same goes for any headphones I have tried they all act the same when streaming or recording with OBS. I have not used any with USB but if that is what I have to do to actually get them to work with OBS I will go out and buy another headset with USB.

So I just set this up and OBS supports it no problem, these are the steps:

Plug the headset in to the correct jack, deal with the Realtek audio manager if it pops up and then in Windows make sure that the device is set to Default Device and make sure audio is going there by right clicking on it and choosing Test. You should hear audio in your headset no problem - I think you have this done already :-)

In OBS, Settings, Audio choose Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) for Desktop Audio Device, choose Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio) in Mic/Aux Audio device. Do not choose Default here!

In OBS, Settings, Output, Streaming tab make sure Audio Track 1 is selected.

In OBS, Edit, Advanced Audio Properties make sure all rows here have Track 1 selected.

If you have all that set up it should just work.

If you have checked All the above settings then I would double check Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control Panel, Hardware and make sure it's configured how you want it, i.e Speakers is checked. Make sure that you have the correct inputs and outputs chosen in OBS, the optical input/output are easy to select by mistake and make sure that the correct tracks are selected for your stream.

As you say it works when you have speakers my gut feeling is that something in Realtek is causing the problem and that when you plug your headphones in Realtek is moving audio to them but OBS is still picking up audio heading to the speakers and there is none.

Lastly if you have Stereo Mix enabled in the Recording Devices tab in Windows try disabling it as a test.

If this still isn't working please provide the following additional troubleshooting information:

Screen Shot of Windows, Sound, Playback devices with your headset plugged in.
Screen shot of OBS, Settings, Audio
Do you see a green level bar in the mixer when your headset is plugged in and you play some audio

I am pretty sure everything is set up just like that but one thing. I never used my Astro's mic when recording or streaming so I do not have that jack plugged into the mic jack I only use the Headphones as I have a Yeti for my mic. I will unplug my Yeti and use the Astros mic and see if that may be the issue. I don't have the mix amp to adjust anything I I just stuck with my Yeti for everything until I save up money for the mix amp.

Ok, I have it fixed. I uninstalled everything of obs studio and re downloaded everything. I am not sure why doing this the last few times did not work but I now have it where everything is working as it should be.

Thanks, I've looked all over youtube, but it was Adrian's comment that has allowed me to be able to stream constant audio. (I was trying to have either speaker or headphone audio when I should have just allowed both)
