Odd Audio Recording Issues

I am recording from a VCR into OBS through a USB connection.
On one of my laptops I get static-y noise over the audio.
On another laptop I get only voice audio--no music, sounds, or background noise.
I have checked audio settings on both laptops, within OBS, have played around with both, and can see nothing different or would cause the differences between the two systems.
Any ideas what could be wrong with each, or why the difference would occur?

OBS Studio creates a log file each time you run it which contains very useful diagnostic information. Without a log file, it's much harder for any support volunteers to figure out problems and your post may be ignored. To upload a log file, go to the Help menu > Log Files > Upload Last Log...

I looked at the logs and did not see anything obvious (I am a professional software tester/analyst/consultant), but will create some fresh ones and upload. Thanks.
