Question / Help Occasional HDCP Blinking During Stream

Hi all,

I'm not convinced this is an issue with OBS, but did not have very much help with AVerMedia support, so hoping for some ideas here.

I've been streaming with Open Broadcaster Software for a couple months now and loving it -- using an AVerMedia Live Gamer HD. I only stream PC games, not consoles, which really confused me when I started seeing HDCP blinking on my stream. It is not consistent or reproducible from what I can tell. It doesn't happen very often, maybe even once or a couple times a day or every few hours even, which has made this very frustrating for me to figure out. The black screen with HDCP written in white letters will appear for a few frames and then disappear again.

I initially thought it was a cable issue, so replaced my HDMI cable to no avail. I also reinstalled the capture card (both physically and with a driver/software uninstall and reinstall and firmware update). I made sure all of my software is up to date as well, naturally. I've looked into ways to bypass HDCP issues with consoles, but have been reluctant to buy some of those things if I wasn't sure they would fix my issue.

My capture card is hooked up to my graphics card via HDMI to HDMI, and my monitors via DVI cables directly into my graphics card. If you have any questions please let me know and I'd be happy to provide more information.

Thanks so much.

Yea, I don't know what you can do about that. It sounds like something from the card itself -- OBS isn't the one painting those words or anything. You may have to get an HDCP bypass or something or use component. Not entirely sure what else to suggest sadly.

Hi Jim,

Thanks very much for your reply!

I too don't think that OBS has anything to do with the issue, but thank you for the feedback nonetheless. Aside from it being a hardware issue with the card, do you have any suggestions on what steps I might try next? If I'm going to buy more products, what should I look for? One of those HDMI/DVI boxes, HDMI to DVI cables? All the information I can get on HDCP workarounds is based off of PS3 streaming usually, so I'm at a bit of a loss for what my cable setup should even look like to try to fix this problem.

Thanks again!

I actually don't know what to suggest outside of using an HDCP bypass or using component cable output to capture. Those are really the only two things you can do about HDCP -- that particular avermedia device is actually one of the best devices you can buy for capturing, it's not the device that's the problem, it's just HDCP. You'd get similar results with HDMI through any other capture device that uses HDCP.

Gotcha, thanks again!

Are there any particular products you recommend me buying if I go the HDCP bypass route? I honestly don't know much about audio/video hardware and such.

I actually don't know, I have known people that use them, but I don't know much outside of that.
