OBS -> YouTube audio streaming only

Hi, I am looking to stream audio-only sports commentary to a fairly old age demographic (technologically-speaking) who are probably fairly adept at YouTube but averse to other lesser-known platforms/software.

Is there any potential issue using OBS to stream the audio-only commentary (with perhaps a still image to suit YouTube Live's video needs) over say something more attuned to audio streaming such as Mixlr?

You can do that, yes. Essentially just add an image source, then stream just as you would with a full video stream. It'll be handled the same way. The Bitrate setting in OBS is for the video side; audio bitrate is handled separately in the Audio config side.
