OBS won't record

I have connected my vcr to my computer via a USB adaptor. I read the various topics in the docs and played around with settings, but nothing appears in the Preview: Scene or Program: Scene windows. I used my vcr-to-usb hardware on a Windows machine a while back, running a different program, and it worked.
I am running:
OBS Studio 32.0.4 (64 bit).

What device are you using? lsusb output might help, and possibly v4l2-ctl --all

Doesn't look like your VCR-to-USB adapter (or whatever output from the VCR you are converting via USB, e.g. composite AV cable to USB) is working on Linux. It is possible it isn't a USB video compliant device - or it might need some "quirks" (only documentation I can find is here: https://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/faq/)
