Question / Help OBS won't record Project Cars

I have an Oculus Rift and have been playing, and recording, Project Cars in OBS by Window Capture of the Oculus preview window, however recently that has stopped working. It shows the desktop and a black window where Project Cars is, the cursor will show up but no image... I have audio as well.

No other games are affected, I can still capture using game or window. Display works kind of, but it is laggy when watching the recording.

Here's the log file that I recently created; https://gist.github.com/anonymous/2c368cf8a6b6c5b29db7f51e15146403

The only change recently is a windows update

I have the same issue. I tried OBS 17 and 19.0.2 and cannot record - files only record audio

Something is broken and I dont know if its to blame Oculus app or if its Windows or both! Oculus home had a change recently, now home showing a Star Trek theme animation. Is there a way to block Oculus from updating the app ?

I reinstalled windows to the April version however I want to try Oculus runtime 1.14 before the latest 1.15 and I cannot find it on the internet. Do you have the runtime 1.14 please? Can you please share it and Ill try this out and tell you what I observe?

I have 1.13 installer... and it is quite frustrating because now nothing is recording... it was earlier as I was able to record Shadow of Mordor. Now the screen is normal for the preview of Window capture, but otherwise black screen if I click okay...

can you please share the 1.13 installer on mediafire or any other platform ? I will try to install 1.13 and see if there is any change using older Windows 10

I think Oculus runtime cannot be rolled back to a previous version.. I found an old install for version 1.12 (around 3 MB though) but all it does is to point u back to latest drivers.. so u end up with 1.15 verion of the Oculus app.

Anyway, I found that if you erase "oculussettings.xml" from Pcars documents it resets the oculus setup with Project Cars. The game is now playable as before with no issues - the monitor screen can be set to be windowed full screen with border or fulscreen borderless. U can still apply supersampling with the editing of the resscale in "oculussettings".

HOWEVER OBS is still not capturing anything - only the sound gets recorded on black screen.. I think I tried all combinations and nothing.

However Geforce Experience captures Oculus gameplay - which I think it means that OBS doesnt detect the right data feed. One slightly weird thing is that in the April version of Windows 10 (with older nvidia drivers) u get videos sized 2160x1200 and in the latest version of Windows with latest nvidia drivers its 1920x1080

Please tell me if you had any luck in figuring out how to make OBS record properly

I have AMD cards, but my issue is still the same. Although I haven't had any issues regarding playability and Pcars in the Rift, only recording with OBS. DXtory doesn't even hook in, and I used to use that before OBS but switched because OBS is just as good and has smaller file sizes.

I was able to record some Pcars with display capture, but I haven't checked the recording yet to see if it's watchable or not.

Indeed with display capture it captures the image.. although for me when I go full screen borderless ingame the image shown on monitor/recorded seems to be around 75% of the usual image - the corner right down seems to be out of the frame..

I tried the Bandicam demo version and it works perfectly. Althogh u have no options basically when u compare it to OBS.. I guess Ill wait for them to update OBS now..
