Question / Help OBS won't allow game to be played for recording..

I bought a brand new laptop, Elgato capture card, Logitech wecam, installed OBS and all things connected properly. The problem is that the game comes up on the screen but it just sits at a standstill. I've tried multiple games but nothing works. If anyone can offer some suggestions, I'd be most grateful...thanks!!
