I mean, you have to get a capture card (I use the XCapture-1) to feed the Program View output into OBS. And you also still have to control the TVS with either a control board or the Blackmagic control panel software, so scene switches in OBS have to be done simultaneously with any camera changes on the TVS. But if all you're looking to do is have a fairly cheap and solid way to handle multiple camera inputs, it's pretty nice. I've used it for two productions so far and it worked out nice.

Maybe one day I will get off my ass and learn some coding so I can make a plugin for OBS Studio that will allow control of the TVS through OBS directly. There's some macro software out there some guy made that allows for some really cool control, so I know it's possible for outside software/programs to interact with it.

First of all, many Thanks Krazy for the detailed reply.

I had the following thoughprocess. At the moment i use a capture card and one camera. So the capture card is doing the h.264 encoding and provides the laptop i use with obs with the hdmi signal via usb. What i wanted to know is, if the ATEM is recognized as a available global source in OBS as well. But yeah you are totally right it should be easy to just use an output of the ATEM via the capture card and do it in the way i am doing it already. About scene switches you are obviously right. But i have pretty easy looking scenes and with the ATEM control panel u can add logo etc. as overlays as well. So may be my scene switches are only done via the ATEM control panel.

Thanks a lot though. I definetly check that out!

Hi Guys,

I came across this forum today after having installed OBS yesterday [26 March 2015]. I am a complete newbie to OBS but what I can inform is that my PC has:
  • 1 x Blackmagicdesign Intensity Pro Card
  • 1 x Blackmagicdesign Atem TVS
Using the BMD Intensity Pro Card just on it's own allows me to bring in a single 1920x1080 HD source. Right clicking on the source the device chosen was defaulted to 'Blackmagic WDM Capture'.

Based on it recognising this input feed then the natural progression is to hook up the Atem TVS to the Intensity Pro Card. Multiview allows you to see each of the 1-6 possible camera sources.

I will provide more info of how it all works out when fully tested.
Hope this helps

Best regards
Brent

I know is a year ago but did you solve this? did you try connect the "usb program" output from the switcher to check if obs recognize it? thanks for your help! regards!

FYI, OBS Classic doesn't really support Black Magic devices, try OBS Studio. (This is the OBS Classic subforum, and I think OBS Studio wasn't much of a thing yet when this thread was made.)
