Question / Help OBS video recording freezes, but audio does not

after recording multiple gameplays, when I go back to rewatch the videos, the video freezes for lenghty periods, will eventually move only to get frozen again, yet the audio still goes on flawlessly without freezing. Anybody have any idea what causes this and how to fix it?

my PC specs if it helps:
GTX 960 4GB
i3-6100 3.7GHz
8GB DDR5 RAM
1TB HDD
