Question / Help OBS Versus Fraps - Frame Lag

I am having some issues with local recording. When I record it I notice jumpiness in the video. My assumption is I am not using the best settings because I don't know what to use for the best 1920 x 1080 local recording. I would prefer to use OBS because fraps is finicky and drops FPS much greater than OBS. When I record I don't even see OBS causing any system lag anywhere however when the video is played back I see lag in the video.

Computer Specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8150, 8 cores at 3.9ghz
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6990
RAM: 8gb DDR3
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

So I did what you said and the video came out great, very smooth. I also upgraded to a new CPU, the AMD FX-8350, 8 cores at 4.2ghz. However when it gets uploaded or when I try to convert it with encodehd the video loses its smoothness. What can I do about that?

EDIT:
Dropping the FPS from 60 to 30 seemed to help some.

What you do with OBS for that depends on if you're uploading the video directly to YouTube, or if you're altering the video with some kind of NLE first. There's a few posts in the local recording thread about this issue.

Youtube doesn't support 60 FPS videos and does a really poor job of converting them to 30 FPS. If your goal is to upload to Youtube, record at 30 FPS from the start.
