Bug Report OBS using 5k bitrate while on desktop

Hello,

When I stream on my desktop, OBS uses 5k bitrate when not in game. However, my friend, when hes on his desktop, the most it ever uses is 500kb/s.

I would like to know why mines using 5k and his is only using 500. We're both streaming out desktop at 1080p 60fps.

Sounds like you have CBR enabled which is on automatically on a clean install. You can turn this off in Encoding Settings if you wish.

I was streaming for a pretty popular LoL tournament and Justin (Gunrun) from Twitch.TV said to keep CBR enabled. Not too sure why he said that though.

Edit: Looks like it was CBR, im now only using 700 on my desktop. Why is CBR important?

CBR means Constant Bitrate so if you set it to 5000 it will always try to be around that no matter what is going on. It is good to have on because VBR (Variable Bitrate) makes the data transmission spikey, and can cause lag to viewers when the bitrate spikes up from a low bitrate.

Also, Twitch does not like bitrates higher than 3.5-4k. You should not go above that.
Ah okay, I set mine to 4k. Thanks a lot
