when i open OBS it asks if I want to update it, i click yes and then it very quickly updates but when it gets near the end the bar turns red and gives me this message OBS update failed couldn't install QSVHelper.exe (error 5), then all i can do is exit. I can choose not to update and it will work but I thought i should see whats up with it anyways.

Try rebooting, and disabling your antivirus software during the update. If that doesn't work you can just use the installer for the latest version and install on top of what you already have. Your settings won't be overwritten.
