Question / Help OBS Unresponsive (but not "Not Responding")

So this is pretty easily replicated. The following example is with an image, but it could be any menu, from filters to text options, etc.

What you see in the video below is me loading OBS, attempting to load an image, unable to "OK", I drag it to the left of the screen, and when I drag it back from the left of the screen, the dialogue goes away an my image is there.

At this point, I can click nothing in the app. It's not "Not Responding" according to Windows, but it's not responding to any of my input. It then seems to freeze my desktop when I pull it to the left of the screen again. I regain access to my desktop when Alt+Ctrl+Del > Task Manager, but OBS is still unresponsive to input.

I'm using a laptop with no other monitors plugged in. I have a Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 USB interface as my primary sound driver. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary.

This has persisted through multiple re-installations and even a complete format of the hard drive.

The logfile from the session recorded above is attached. Merry Christmas, lol.

Hey there! No, unfortunately it happens whether streaming, recording or neither of the two. Simply using the thing causes it to crash lol. If I start streaming or recording and don't use any menus like in the video, it's fine. But once I do, it does that. OBS is the only program that does this on my PC.

Does the problem persist in a new scene collection?
You have a lot of media sources in there that are gif files, and that could be part of the problem.

Don't think so. It is part of the system I think. Some software conflict. Because it only happens when qt in use. If any additional software installed (Sizing Options etc.) try to remove it completely.

It's done this with a fresh single scene, with one capture and one image source as much as it's done it with all of that. I've even gone and deleted all but a couple scenes and all gifs and a bunch of sources and I'm still having the problem.

I didn't even know what that was, let alone that it was installed. I'm uninstalling Sizing Options now. Thanks.

Try right-click at the preview window and make unchecked the Enable Preview. See if this helps.

It looks very similar to this issue: UI Freezing my OBS? (Fixed???)

Edit: Also, look at the Windows Event Viewer for Errors (system) and say if there is some similar things to the post mentioned above.

Yeah it sounds a lot like what's happening there. Unfortunately disabling previews doesn't stop the issue.

As for event viewer, I don't really know what I'm looking for, but as far as I can see, no errors pop up in the time frame that I'm testing this out.

I might have to try Classic out.

Edit: I should mention, I had the thought that maybe my external audio interface (Focusrite Scarlet) was causing conflicting issues, so have unplugged it. Still getting this issue, so I guess it's something else.

And much like the link you posted, I'm on an MSI GT72 6QD with a 970m but no external monitor plugged in (as that tends to cause even more problems with OBS).

Ok so maybe this isn't even an OBS issue, because the exact same thing is happening with the BattleNet launcher. Odd.
