Question / Help OBS suddenly crashing daily

Hi! And thanks in advance for the help!

The last few days OBS has been crashing much more for me, when it almost never did before. This includes sometimes on startup/closing, and seems to happen once a stream (6 hours long). I recently switched my build, but do not drop frames. I stream at 6000bitrate and 60fps with x264 and "faster" preset. (I was previously streaming at 3500 30fps but it was still crashing then as well. It does not seem to be related. There are no dropped frames).

I switched from using an Intel 6700K and MSI H110M mobo, to AMD Ryzen 1700x and MSI B350 Tomahawk mobo. I did not yet overclock it, it is the base model. It seems the crashes have happened since switching, please advise if there is something I need to change when streaming with AMD instead of Intel?

Thanks very much for the help. I am uploading a few crash logs, starting with the most recent one from today.

Also, I am on Windows 10, was on the prior OBS version (I think 18.0.2) but updated yesterday to 19.0.2 to see if it helped, to no avail.

Please let me know if I can send anything else to help.

I am on 19.0.2 (upgraded two days ago). It should show that on the 06/02 and 06/01 logs I think? But not 05/30. I upgraded from I believe 18.0.2 (I think) to see if it would fix the problem. I didn't know I was on the 32 bit, will go open that instead.

I can't seem to find the 64 bit version on my system. It should be under C:\Program Files\ while the 32 bit is under C:\Program Files (x86)\OBS? I see the 32bit being there but not the 64 bit even though I use the installer. Is there somewhere else I should look?

Also, sorry, I tried to post the crash logs chronologically but it appears github reversed it.

Copy shortcut. Edit copy and hook it to 64 bit OBS.

Ok, I will update to 64bit OBS and let you know if there are crashes on tonight's stream. Thanks for the continued help.

Hey! So, seemed like things were going fine. Updated to 64 bit and was fine the prior 2 or so streams. Tonight though, it crashed again midstream. If you could please take a look at the logs again it'd be greatly appreciated.

From what we can tell so far, that crash is due to bugs in the Ryzen's microcode. There's nothing we can do about it, but check your motherboard manufacturer's site for any firmware updates that might be available.

I do not get any libx264 crashes in my 1700X + MSI Titanium AM4 XPower build.

Some suggestions:
  • Because Ryzen is a new computing platform, it is important that you flash your BIOS when updates are available
  • Use only MSI vendor listed RAM at the speeds supported - very important!
  • According to your log, you seem to be behind in Win10 build number. You need to update that. Yours show version 296. I'm on 332.
  • Set Power Plan to High Performance
  • Avoid overclocking until you can stabilize your system
