OBS Stopped Connecting to Facebook Live Stream

Like most of you, this problem between Facebook and OBS started all of a sudden. For 5 years we have flawlessly live streamed on FB via OBS...until 2 weeks ago. Now, when attempting to go live, we see the "video source required" message. I am bout to try the browser refresh method and see if I have any luck. Until then, I am believing this to be a Facebook issue. But, we all know how contacting them for support can be. Good luck everyone!

I've been successfully streaming for several years, and three weeks ago the OBS would not connect to Facebook. Sometimes times out with the message "Could not access the specified channel or key". I tried a myriad of key entry options, including persistent key. I kept trying last night prior to a live broadcast today, and for a long time it wasn't working, but then it worked several times. Unfortunately, today it would not connect for my live stream. I've tried several browsers, and oddly once today the blue button came on Facebook, but when I clicked it, it just went spinning. I did a speedtest and have 90+M upstream and downstream. I am running OBS 31.0.1, however, I don't recall if that update was the beginning of my turmoil. Can I "easily" roll back to a previous version? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also I noticed that 'sometimes' when you click "start streaming" it immediately turns to "stop streaming" which made me think it was partially successfully through the connection process.
We started having this exact same problem in our church the last week of January. We've done all the same steps as many here. Such as trying different browsers, obs versions, resets, cache/cookies clearing, etc. Will admit we've not tried duck duck go.

The one thing I have noticed is that when I swapped our login from our churches account to my personal I could instantly successfully connect my video source. I'd log out of my personal and go back into our church account and once again the system would not recognize the video source, despite reporting good metrics.

So, at the risk of sounding harsh, is there anyone on this post that's having this trouble that is not using a church account?

I found the same thing as you. Switched from our church account to my personal account and it just worked. Switched back to church account and it failed. All that was on my home computer. Went to church Sunday and Facebook failed so I hit the Chrome browser refresh button while OBS was trying to connect, and it connected Facebook to OBS. We broadcasted fine. Works every time in my experience. Try it.

Well, add me to this list. I've been doing Facebook live streams for a long time, using Google Chrome browser and had zero issues, except for the rare occasion of having to refresh keys. Starting about 2 weeks ago, I "Start Streaming" on OBS and Facebook (on the same computer) never picks up the livestream. I cannot find any rhyme of reason to it. Have to close OBS, Chrome, and reset keys over and over, and eventually it may work.

I'm sure, as always winds up being the problem, Facebook is jerking around with stuff...because I haven't been able to find or isolate anything that is causing this. It is now a total crap shoot if it even works. Computer is completely clean, no malware and no virus' and nothing has changed on the PC, other than the normal pain in the butt auto Microsoft updates.

I can say I am using my personal Facebook account, which is an admin account, for my business page. Have always used and never had one problem, until about 2 weeks ago and then OBS basically has just stopped connecting to Facebook live. Make no sense. I have learned over the years, that 99% of the time when there are issues with Facebook Live, it has ALWAYS turned out to be Facebook changed things and other hardware and software vendors were never notified. I assume all this is just FB again.

Nothing to add other than "same." We are school, not a church, but after 2+ years of working flawlessly, it died. Attempted a fix on multiple computers, one that was running an old version of OBS. Agreeing that the issue seems to be on FB's side. We have presentations coming up and will be trying a work around with paid Vimeo account.

Gonna add my details to this. Been using same stream setup since Covid.

Started 3 weeks ago we use Chrome. Loaded up Edge pasted that stream key in and it worked right away.

2 Weeks ago Chrome worked fine as if the never was an issue.

This past week Chrome wouldn't work again, but Edge did fine.

One of my customers has almost the same setup but they typically use Firefox. Their situation matches mine. Firefox would work but fired up Edge and it worked once the new stream key was entered.

I tried the refresh trick I thought last night with no luck. But I need to pay closer attention to the order next time.

In thinking about how Edge has worked and one of the earlier posts about the key. I'm wondering if it's the fact that Edge didn't have the persistent switch set to on so it forced a new key. I may try turning Chrome's persistent key switch off tomorrow.

Created a new forum account just to chime in with a "same!" We are running a youth hockey page and stream our games to Facebook live for parents/grandparents/etc to be able to watch from afar. Since October, OBS and FBL has worked great. That is, up until about a month ago. Nearly ever weekend I struggle to push our Hudl Focus camera feed to FB. OBS indicates everything is great, but FB shows no video coming in and I'm unable to hit the Start Live button. Have tried various laptops and browsers: Brave (our normal,) Edge, Chrome, and Firefox, all doing the same thing. We've been using persistent key's since the start of the season, but lately often I have to refresh this, reset it in OBS, and sometimes it will take and everything just starts to work. Also as of late, when it has worked, I'm not able to cleanly end the live feed from FB, and have to just close out the browser.

I'll try the refresh trick for our next game and see if that get's things going without jumping through all of the hoops. Thanks for the suggestion and to verify that I'm not going crazy!

We too are having issues with OBS and Facebook live for the past month. Will try the refresh this evening. Our church has been streaming for over 6 years. I hope OBS and Facebook figure something out.

We've been having issues too. We don't livestream every week, but our last rostered service a month ago, it suddenly wouldn't connext to Facebook. We tried restarting Facebook and OBS to no avail so had to use our aging desktop, which would connect to Facebook, but at the price of a terrible framerate. Have tested it several times since and it worked, but at our latest streamed service today it wouldn't connect again on either laptop. My workaround was to set OBS to virtual camera and connect it to Facebook that way, and that did work.

I have not been able to broadcast our church services for 5 weeks, with this same problem. We have used the same equipment, ATEM Mini, OBS and Facebook LIVE for nearly 5 years, and now, we can not determine why facebook will not connect the stream offered from OBS. All Windows 11, OBS, ATEM are up to date in software. PLEASE, if you have an answer, we sure would be grateful to have it!!!!! THANK YOU!!! - rick, Clancy UMC streamer (Clancy, MT) Note: I CAN successfully stream from my personal Facebook account page, but NOT as a manager anymore, even though I am allowed to do everything else on Facebook as manager for CUMC (Clancy UMC).

I will try refreshing Facebook - does this mean logging out & logging back in to Facebook? Glad i am not alone with this nasty, SERVICE AFFECTING situation!

I have the same problem. Random times obs will not connec to facebook live as it does not recognize the stream, even though the stream key is working and obs is broadcasting. I will try to refresh work around. This is very frustrating.

Finally, a perhaps band-aid answer to getting production accomplished when these annoying "non OBS connecting" problems occur:

I have performed the usual procedures for our Sunday service, and when Facebook fails to allow connection from the OBS, I tried the "Reload this page" icon in the Chrome browser top line (where you enter the url info); and BANG everything worked! I have done this experiment 4 times, each with success!

No
in this case, Refreshing refers to a browser page refresh.. this ONLY applies [is a recommended testing step] if/when you have green light in OBS Studio on streaming, and preview window not appearing on Facebook's live preview

I'm curious if anyone knows is same or similar issue (TLS handshake] as noted in Lunux forum is affecting Windows OS version? https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...ed-0x7080-on-facebook-live.182153/post-666489

SAME problem feel like I’m bout to lose my mind. Does anybody have a fix to this issue yet? I’ve tried everything sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t but I have been live streaming to YouTube and it works just fine so I may just continue that just more of our congregation has Facebook so I like to have it on Facebook so I just post our YouTube link in Facebook that’s the only thing I know to do.

Agree with all. This began about a month ago. My feeling is that Facebook is responsible, because like some are saying, a FB refresh seems to help a lot. It's not browsers because Chrome and Edge have shown the same problems. Hopefully, FB will fix it on their end.

The browser refresh works only temporarily…within 15 minutes the error message returned.

So, I followed the recommendation of one of the folks on this forum. I also have had issues with connecting with Facebook for our church service. The recommendation was to hit the refresh circle for the page on Chrome with Facebook. It worked perfectly, once clicked the "go live" button, it was green and ready to go.

Our church has had the OBS to Facebook live-stream connection problem for about a month now. Never had a problem until then. The connection would succeed occasionally. Failed about 4 times out of 5 tries. Had to let the live-stream connection completely shut down before making another attempt (about half a minute to a minute). Problem happens for both Edge and Chrome. The work-around of refreshing Facebook (F5 key, etc.) does work, so I'm very thankful for those who discovered that and reported it in this forum. The work-around makes sense since the live-stream connection apparently gets processed most of the way, except for the checkbox getting checked at the end.
