Question / Help OBS "Start Streaming" disappears after pressing. Have to kill process. Unable to stream.

Last night everything was working fine and I stopped my stream like normal. But when I hit the "start streaming" button less than a minute later to get back on, the "start streaming" button went blank and nothing happened. I then closed OBS, but it remained in the system tray. I couldn't reopen OBS as it warned me it was already open, yet I couldn't right click the OBS system tray icon to close it, I had to go into task manager and kill the process. Loading OBS back up, it continues to do this every time I hit the start streaming button.

- Restarting OBS, my computer, the router, does not fix it.
- It's not my stream key. It works fine. I even generated a new one.
- I can stream just fine in StreamLabs using the same key.

Thanks for your help with this. It's super frustrating.
And if you can't help me with this issue, is there a way I can export all my scenes and filter settings, so that I can try uninstalling and reinstalling the previous version without losing everything?

See attached log and screenshot.

Glad I'm not the only one! If no one has an answer, I'm going to try downgrading to the older version. This is pretty much why I never update OBS to the latest version, there's always something that completely breaks my workflow.

I'm streaming to Chaturbate. (So it should be trying to stream to rtmp://live.stream.highwebmedia.com/live-origin. There's no authentication, just that link and a stream key which I know is correct.) Today I tried uninstalling OBS 25.0.8 and downgrading to 25.0.1 and the problem continues to persist. I'm really at a loss for what's happening and where it's getting jammed up.

Here's the log file from my 25.0.1 attempt. Again, it ended with me having to close OBS and then going into Task Manager to manually end the OBS process that was still running despite the program being closed.

SOLVED!!!! Information for OBS devs included.

Here are the steps you need to take to fix it, and how OBS could be improved in future versions to prevent this from happening to others.

Open OBS.
File -> Show Profile Folder
Open up service.json
Look at the "server" value/key pair.
In my case, there was a "\n" (line break) at the beginning of the server URL.
Remove it and make sure the URL is 100% accurate.
Save the file.
Either close and open OBS again or switch to another profile and back again. (force it to reload the settings)
Start the stream. It should work.

For the Devs: What made this hard to figure out as a user:
1) When pasting a URL into the OBS field, it does not show any white space or line break at the beginning of the URL in the text field indicating a line break was copied. The user has no idea they've copied a line break.
2) OBS does not recognize or remove line breaks when saving the server URL despite not displaying them in the text field.
3) At some point OBS seemed to work fine with the line break, but then all of a sudden it could no longer handle it.
4) OBS would get confused by the line break on Stream Start yet not crash nor display any error messages nor amend its log. The process would keep running even after shutting down the program leading to a completely silent program failure.

I recommend either sanitizing the line breaks, OR displaying them in the field as raw text so the user knows one has been copied, OR catching this error on stream start so OBS doesn't fail silently.

Thanks for all your patience and guidance, and I hope this helps!

I streamed for like 30 minutes... and after all that time without a single viewer I got suspicious and looked at OBS and sure enough... woof!! LOL!

I got the same issue today. Till yesterday it was all fine. I just updated my OBS to 26.0.0-rc1. But the issue is still there. And now the button did not become blank but it said "connecting..." After a long time a popup came up saying "could not connect". Then I again clicked on "Start Streaming" and it worked fine.
