Question / Help OBS refuses to capture any audio other than desktop

I posted this issue a week or two ago but thought I'd try again as a couple of things have changed.

I updated to the latest version (from version 21 to 24) and I tested both my Oculus Rift audio capture and webcam audio capture using the built-in windows software and then tried to do the same with OBS. Windows captured both fine but OBS didn't.

Even if I add my web cam as a video input it captures the video but not the audio.

Ah, I finally just solved it. I was able to figure out that it was a Windows setting issue because I tried to record audio using some video editing software and it too had a problem. I found that there's actually too many options inside windows for microphone privacy, it's like: do you allow windows to access your mic, yes, do you allow the following programs to have access to your mic, yes, but also... do you allow programs in general to access your mic... FFS YES.
So after finally finding that last global setting, everything started working again. I think a recent Windows update probably screwed everything up. Some day, when I'm 80, I'll have an operating system that isn't Windows. And everything will work.
