Question / Help OBS recording state makes the game laggy

Hello,

I've recently changed my monitor (and resolution -> 1920x1080), and certainly the settings I had before are no longer useful. I was able to record on max quality settings and I never had a problem, but now, whenever I'm recording, the game is lagging (and also the video, of course). I'd like to be able to record on max settings, and not worry about the software.
Note: I'm not interested in stream settings, only local recording.

i5-6600 CPU @ 3.30GHz
16GB RAM
GTX 970 GPU

Or just switch to obs studio, use the indistinguishable quality preset in output settings using either the software low cpu use encoder or one of the two hardware encoders (nvenc or qsv)

I tried this, but i got a 20x heavier file. Is there any tweak I can do to lower the output file size?

Re-encode the file with a slower sounding preset after you're done.
