I have recently been trying to use OBS to record some gameplay, specifically Call of Duty Warzone. No matter what I try, I have massive render and encoding lag like
> Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 667/1006 (66.3%)
I have tried running the game itself at both 1440p 60+ fps (fps limited in game) and 1080p 144+ fps and rescaled recording output all the way down to 720p 30 fps. The recordings get "better" but never quite "good". I have used a bunch of different settings, CBR with low bitrates (3 Mbps), CRF with factors up to like 32, I have set the preset all the way to the highest "ultrafast", nothing seems to work.
As an aside, recently the game seems to crash whenever OBS is running alongside it... Probably not OBS's fault but I figured I'd mention it.
So I tried a different program... I used the Radeon software's built in recording thing and it seems to have no problem at all recording 1080p 30fps... It appears to be doing CBR so I set that up to 15 Mbps and still no problems. No stutters or skips... there are other problems though... it seems to like to record green screen instead of game play sometimes but that's beside the point.
Any ideas why OBS struggles so much? Any suggestions on settings that I might want to try to get it to work? I have a bunch of log files I can post with different configurations... not sure which ones you might want to see up front so I just put a middle of the road capture log for a starting point.
Recent log file for starters:
