OBS Process Vanishing while recording (Photographed)

The photo says it all. When i click record, the obs process vanishes from Task Manager on windows 10.

There have been... honestly... extraterrestrial-level-fuckery-events... that are beyond my description.

I'm just attempting to ascertain:
1. Is this normal?
2. Is it something weird with my windowsOS, or is my os compromised?
3. Fixable?

I do not have the setting clicked to "hide obs" or anything like that. This seems strangely invasive and virus-like.

Thanks for any help, if there is some. Appreciate it.

Got it fixed. Reinstalled... twice? Some weird OS related malware??? On uninstall it gave an unsigned "install.exe" which ran into errors related to Edge. So.. really weird.

Anyway, Uninstalled, reinstalled, then the process showed... but the process had a "cmd" process appended to OBS. Super duper sketchy.

I have a third party software and i blocked the cmd.exe. Seems OK now. I need to dig into this OS to see if this is normal behavior, an OBS specific malware, or what.

But yeah, uninstalling, reinstalling, maybe twice should fix this... but the "cmd.exe" needs blocked manually.

LOL. As i write this, i notice the process is no longer showing as it records.

I guess i'm just going to have to uninstall and find another recording software

=(

Just finalizing forum post here, Don't believe the CMD prompt is normal, DO NOT Believe the process hiding is related to OBS programmers specifically. I'm noticing some really strange EMF/bit bleedthrough type errors whereby task manager is uncategorizing categories (for instance how edge will have a drop down, list all relevant processes, etc.) and other OS related issues... Like processes which shouldn't be running which are running. Until i can determine the specifics of what goes on I would, barring an actual dev chiming in, state that the actions I listed here are probably sufficient, and that greater OS bugtesting/integration is necessary.

Don't believe the devs or program is compromised specifically, just some errors with respect to program integration into the OS.

Probably could be programmed better to adjust to these issues, but that nobody here is specifically at fault, and that it doesn't mean the program itself is compromised or have a virus.

Your screenshot only shows a small section of task manager, if OBS is running it is not disappearing from that list but its position could definitely change. I am not sure what even sent you down this path to worry about something like this but if you downloaded OBS from any official channels (this website, steam, the microsoft store, the obsproject github) then there is no malware.

I don't believe, regardless of your forum moderator tag, that you have any wherewithall with respect to anything regarding the windows OS if you can't see that screenshot and understand what i'm saying.

i have again confirmed, periodically, weird behavior with the executable, weird changes with respect to settings, and the actual process vanishing from process/task manager when recording.

I received recently some strange popup about twitch settings? or something? and some other weird behavior, like how it processes changing. The load was shifting from CPU to GPU, and have other strange behavior.

i can also confirm, absolutely, a "cmd.exe" loading alongside and under the tab of OBS which i had to block with a separate executable.

I recommend you use the "Details" tab of Windows task manager, then sort by name, where you will definitely find obs64.exe while it is running and recording. Something not shown here isn't running on your machine. The "Processes" section you use is a categorized view where it's not clear where everything is sorted to.

You seem to have some paranoid view on OBS - if you use the installation from Steam or a direct download from the obsproject.com website (linked at the top of this forum webpage) you should have the unaltered original OBS without any malware. You shouldn't use any other installation source.

If you think it is possible for OBS to be running while not being listed as a process in task manager then I think you may want to reconsider your own technical ability here and listen to others.
