Question / Help OBS Preview freezes/stalls intermittently using Elgato HD60s

I'm having an issue using my new Elgato HD60s. The preview when setting the capture device settings shows near real time. However, after a couple seconds or sometimes after many minutes, the preview begins to lag severely. We're not talking about missing a couple frames here and there - i'm saying there are 30 second intervals where the screen won't update with a new picture. I've attempted to stream during these periods where the preview is laggy and the stream mimics the preview precisely. In some cases, I've changed the settings so much that the stream won't even show a picture and instead i just hear my voice. I've attempted to change nearly every setting i can find on both the input (elgato) side and the OBS side. No combination i've found resolves the laggy preview and if it does look remedied, it's only for a few short minutes before it starts lagging again and won't recover.

Any idea what this could be?

yeah that happened to me alot as well. I suggest you use OBS-Studio which is much more smooth, lagless, fast, advance, better in every aspect. I use Elgato HD60 as well and by far OBS-Studio is the best out there. Elgato's own software isn't bad either but the file size is huge and you cant change the bitrate of the video according to your size.

Sorry, i AM using OBS Studio 64 bit. Any ideas what could cause this?
I believe your video record settings are set to 1280x720 with bitrate set to 48000? if thats the case then your bitrate is too high. lower it down to something around 10-15k.

Hello Cjones, I've just got the elgato hd60s and I was wondering if you found a solution to your problem. I have the same problem and can't find a solution anywhere
