Yes. If you want to settings to be portable as well, create a file in the same directory as OBS.exe called "obs_portable_mode" (no extension), and it will save all settings to that location rather than %appdata%\obs, causing the program settings to be portable.

Ok, thank you I will try it.

However this is very tricky.

The authors should introduce an extra option in GUI for portable mode (or ask during installation and auto-create the file).

Just got it working I will be nice and list my steps.

(Windows 10) Other operating systems could be different.

1. Install OBS fresh onto the computer. If it's already installed you may want to uninstall and reinstall.
2. Do a file search for OBS.exe. (You will have 64bit and 32bit)
3. I pulled both the 32 and 64 bit folders onto my flash drive. (To avoid any file path issues I didn't rename the folders but put one folder within a folder to avoid duplicate name conflicts)
4. Add a file no extension named obs_portable_mode to both folders
5. Run both 64/32 OBS.exe within the flash drive. This should generate more files into the OBS folder.
6. I received an error something like cant locate "d3dx10_43.dll"
7. I did a file search for d3dx10_43.dll and found it in my system32 folder.
8. Copy and paste the .dll file into both OBS folders.

Some of these steps may be unnecessary but I didn't take the time to test different installation methods.

Why would you necro this thread from 2014? Just get the ZIP version of OBS, extract it wherever you want, and run with the -portable launch argument.

Maybe the moderators should lock down forums posts older then 1 year. What I posted is still valid information that can be used. Albeit not the best solution.
