So I finally managed to make my mic hearable by switching it to channel 1. When I watch recordings now I can only hear it on the right ear. What could cause this?
OBS only recording microphone for the left ear.

To fix check the mono checkbox at the screen here.
Hopefully you got it sorted out :)
Reason is obs processes sound as stereo. and if you hear it right, your stereo image is swapped, channel 1 = left, channel 2= right. But anyway solution is to mono the source material and have balance at center.
