OBS Nvenc Encoder & Nvidia Driver Issue

Hey all,

I'm having a problem with the Nvenc encoder and Nvidia drivers, past Nvidia 466.77.
Any update past the Nvidia 466.77 causes the encoder to completely lag out, and my whole stream becomes stuttery, lagging, like it's getting massive frame drops.
It also seems to lag out my PC, discord become slow and input for text becomes lagging.
I've had to keep backdating my Nvidia drivers back to 466.77 in order to stream smoothly.
I have no errors in OBS, no recorded frame drops etc.

I've tried studio drivers instead, no change. I've never had this issue before. Streaming for over a year and only seeing this issue the past month or so from the more recent Nvidia Driver updates.

I'm at a loss, I genuinely don't know what to do.
If anyone has any insight or input, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Log file attached from the most recent test I've done with the most recent Nvidia drivers and OBS installed

Unclear if this got bumped or removed. Either way, I could still really use help.
None of the current posts have been able to offer any solutions.

Hey Futcher,

I don't have any advice unfortunately because I've been having the same issue. Terrible stuttering and obvious dropped frames (Even becoming a slideshow depending on the game), but OBS is reporting nothing dropped anywhere in the stats or the log.

One other piece of software I have for HDR recording was working fine in SDR using NVENC last night, so I've only been having the issue with OBS. Been wrecking my brain trying to figure it out as it only seems to have happened with specific games for me, and even lowering settings and resolution (When the game was already using less than 65% if my GPU) hasn't got rid of it.

I'm also running a 2080 Ti.

I've been going mad trying to fix it, still nothing.
I have a ticket open with Nvidia as well, but I genuinely cannot update my drivers.
Latest Nvidia drivers came out today, updated to them, ran some short test streams, still the same issue. F

If anyone out there has any information, I'd be hella appreciative.

Taking a look at your logfile, your 'Live' scene has both a Display Capture and a Game Capture. Having these in the same scene can cause MASSIVE performance issues; Display Capture should be avoided at all costs when possible. If it MUST be used, put it into its own separate scene with no Game or Window Capture sources.
Unfortunately the provided log doesn't include a recording or streaming session, which may provide more insight for troubleshooting.

If removing the Display Capture doesn't fix things up, have you tried going to an older version like 27.0.1? Some have reported edge-case performance issues and other oddities with 27.1.3.

Hey mate. I'll give the older OBS a crack for sure and remove the display capture too.
I've uploaded a current version of the log files. Hopefully it shows some of the un displayed errors.

Backdated OBS to 27.0.1 and removed display capture.
Same issue. :/

Hmm. You're showing a lot of rendering lag, which shouldn't happen in Administrator Mode.
Try creating a new Scene Collection. Most commonly rendering lag can be caused (outside of certain NVENC options) by a slow source. You DO have a lot of browser sources. A blank collection with just one capture should help rule that out.

I have similar problem...

@FerretBomb what do you mean by "Slow source"??

I'm recording PES2019 (Vsync on 60fps), 1366x768 canvas, 1364x768 scaled bilinear, 60fps, nvenc CQF 20, performance preset, only 1 scene and 1 game source, recorded to SSD.

Game running smoothly but, recorded video was stuttering, even at 30fps recording.
max CPU & GPU temp usually under 70C.

Im using Ryzen 3600 & GTX 1060 3GB, 16GB RAM,
Windows Game mode off, obs run as admin.

Is my Vram not enough?
Now I wan't to try another(older) version of graphic driver.

Currently at studio driver 472.39, win10 21h1.

Create your own thread with a logfile from a recording and/or streaming session, and we can take a look. Hijacking others' threads for your own (likely unrelated) problem is frowned upon.
