Question / Help OBS not seeing my iPhones after installation

I'm really sorry if this has been discussed a lot. I'm trying to set up a very simple two camera (using iPhones) live stream. I've downloaded and installed EpocCam for the iPhones and gone through the download and installations of the drivers. All that works. Downloaded the app that's required for EpocCam to work on the desktop.

I boot up OBS create my scene with the very creative name scene 1.

I add select Video Capture Device as a source, however when I go to select preferences the Device drop down menu and Preset are red and there's no options in the drop down menu.

Again i'm really sorry if this has been asked a lot I'm just frustrated not knowing what I'm doing wrong.

If EpocCam has a preview window, I'd suggest either using a Window or a cropped Display capture to capture them. It seems possible to me that whatever driver they are using there is not one that OBS can see.

Looking at Kinoni's site, it appears their software for the Mac is in beta.

Thanks, are there any alternatives that you could recommend other than EpocCam?

Afraid not. I've not yet tried to use an iPhone as a webcam. I may look into it, though. If I find one that works with OBS I will post it here.

Nope. I also doubt that you're doing anything wrong, or that this is actually a fault in OBS. If the software you're using doesn't provide a standard driver for the iphone as a camera device, then OBS won't see it.

Have you tried any other software? Did you try capturing the preview window?

if I understood you right: simple quicktime app will be enough. Run quicktime, start "video recording" (no need to record), there is triangle right to the red button , select iphone as your video source and audio if you need (iphone should be connected through cable), last step just capture quicktime window with obs

Doing two simultaneous window captures on video feeds coming over wireless devices is probably a really good recipe for having audio sync problems.

I've tried the Quicktime route as well sadly Quicktime doesn't see my iphone either, and my phone is all up to date.

I haven't tried any new software. All the recommended ones cost some cash, and I really don't want to keep spending money if it's not working.

Two Solutions :)

This post is probably well old and forgotten by now, but I've just started using OBS with an iPhone as a remote camera. I too had the issue of OBS not detecting the EpocCam as a device, under video capture, which I believe it is meant to work (even after the drivers have been installed). However, I was able to get it to work by loading the Epoccam standalone program, then in OBS In sources, ad a 'Window Capture', then select the Epoccam.exe program from the list. It's not ideal, as I believe it wouldn't be taking it's true resolution, as it's a screen of a screen so to speak.

Another option that I found, which I feel is superior, and also cheaper is e2e Soft - iVCam. $4.99 vs $9.99. iVcam installed the drivers and worked right out of the box, I could see it as a dedicated device under Video Capture. There is a free version for testing, which even allow streaming of an iPhone X at full resolution, being 3480x2160. The paid version removes the watermarks.

But side note, if anyone does figure out a real solution for Epoccam, I'm still interested.

Hi PK,

I'm looking at the iVCam since I saw your post. Does it render HD?

I paid for and downloaded the iOS Camera app for OBS where you can connect via USB cable but it no longer works.

I wish there was a solid USB solution to use my iPhone as an HD camera with OBS.

Very frustrating.

I'm looking for a solution like iVCam but for Android devices on windows.
Do you know something that works in a SOLID way with:
- OBS Studio
- Windows10
- Android smartphones
- WiFi and/or USB

Thanks a lot for the help.

I'm also working on this issue. I found an iOS app called ShutterCast that's $0.99 in the Apple store. FYI, it does *not* work on Android. This solution works well for one camera, but I've had some problems connecting two iPhones to my one computer. The problem seems to be iTunes, honestly – still haven't figured out how to use multiple iOS devices on one computer.
