OBS not recording desktop audio / Suddenly unable to split desktop and mic audio

Up until a few weeks ago (2 updates ago) I was recording desktop audio on one channel and mic on another using Game Capture as a source, then splitting them in my editing software.

Now OBS is not recording desktop audio unless I use Audio Output Capture as a source, but this doesn't allow me to split the audio during editing.

I've tried many suggestions from online (including making sure the correct audio devices were selected in Settings) but nothing has worked.

Open the Advanced Audio Properties, UNCHECK THE "Active Only" BOX at the bottom left, and post that screenshot.

Your Audio Output Capture is going to both tracks...

That should get you going, but there's still another due diligence item:

Why is *that*?

Do you have different device assignments for the Desktop and Output Capture? A wrong assignment could make it "not work", and is often how people find out that Default is a bad setting.

Default is good to show immediately that a fresh installation works, before you've set anything, but it becomes a liability after that. If Windows thinks you want to use something else, OBS's Default setting will follow suit, and then it "suddenly doesn't work without you changing anything". Selecting a specific device *in OBS* will stay on that device regardless.
Or I guess if you *want* to change devices and have OBS follow that automatically, then Default might be for you. Most of the time though, it's not.

Also, once you have what you want, delete the rest or set it to Disabled. No need to keep something around, that can only hurt if it finds something to do.
