Question / Help OBS not picking up desktop sound

Hi,

I'm unable to pick up my gameplay sound through OBS for recording or streaming.
I would like the gameplay sound to be picked up from through my headphones, but I have also tried picking up the sounds through my speakers - but with no luck. I've tried the good uninstall reinstall for OBS but still no joy
I have been testing with a few different games and options, but here are my current basic settings.

Please let me know if there is any other info that can help troubleshoot.
Kind regards - Natalie :)

08:26:07.935: [WASAPISource::TryInitialize]:[Front Headphone Jack (Realtek High Definition Audio)] Failed to get initialize audio client: 88890008

Reinstall your Realtek HD Audio drivers

Thank you. I did a complete uninstall/reinstall with new drivers from Realtek, but that hasn't worked.

There are repeating WASAPI source errors coming up in the log (when I am trying different selections) example:
17:00:40.888: [WASAPISource::TryInitialize]:[Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)] Failed to get initialize audio client: 88890008
17:00:40.888: [WASAPISource::WASAPISource] Device 'default' not found. Waiting for device

Could this be related to my headphones/speakers, or is it definitely a software issue?

Thanks again for your reply.

As, I suppose, your headphones are connected via jack, it´s a software issue.

Have you installed 64 bits drivers?
OBS running is 64 bits.
I think Realtek HD should work even with 32 bit drivers.

Thanks for the reply again.
Both are 64bit - just uninstalled and reinstalled both again today, just to check.

I had a friend over to help me with some troubleshooting. Currently seeing if I can get Audacity to pick up my game audio, but I seem to be having the same issue with that app too.
Maybe there is a windows setting screwing with the apps?

Is your Front Headphone Jack (selected in OBS as Desktop Audio) your Windows default audio device?

My speakers are coming up as my default windows sound device for playback, which picks up the front and rear jacks. If my headphones are plugged in, it over-rides the back speaker jack as my output device as per settings in Realtek.

In OBS for my Desktop Audio my options are:

With all 3 device options, nothing picks up.

Is that an Audio Output Capture source?
I think that´s not the way to get your desktop audio in OBS

Go to audio settings and set DEFAULT or your speakers, instead Front Headphone Jack.

NOTE: before sending this, I try to do the same as you are doing. To get desktop audio that way, select Speaker, your default device

EDIT:
or don´t mute rear jack. I don´t do it. Maybe this is muting desktop default audio.

Audio Output removed - I did have it turned off, but not removed just in case.

In my OBS audio settings I have only been using default or speakers options for most of my testing. In Realtek I have changed the option so the speakers and front headphones are treated as 2 separate outputs through Realtek with the option selected make front and rear outputs play on separate streams:

Nothing is being picked up in OBS still, via any of the available output selectable options which are now (new option for Realtex HD Audio 2nd output after split):

I have used all of the options on the list on the screen shot above (Default, NVIDIA option, Speakers, Realtek DO, and Realtek 2nd output).
I can't get desktop audio from any of them to be captured in OBS.

There is no waveform showing in the mixer, and no desktop/game sound on recorded file or stream.

Not sure what else to try.

Thank you for your help so far.

Do not use Audio Output Capture.
Select Default for Desktop in Audio settings. This is the default config. It should work.

Thanks for sending links from the other threads.
Nahimic was the issue. As soon as I uninstalled it, it started working straight away.

Thanks! :D

I use Realtek HD audio driver.
With ecualization -- rock or power option, sound equalizer and virtaulization speakers (to get wider spatial sound) you can get the same as with Nahimic.

I simply fixed this issue by going to
Audio > Desktop Audio Device

and changing my Desktop Audio Device to a Display Audio (In my case it was ELEFW328 (Intel(R) Display Audio)

This fixed the issue for me, if this doesn't work try restarting your computer.
