Question / Help OBS MP4 Codec Conversion (No Sound)

I keep my copy of OBS up to date.

The issue I'm having is when I use Microsoft Movie Maker or any other conversion software, I lose the audio.

As it stands, I use Sony Movie Studio 12 to edit all my videos. The MP4 output from OBS is not supported by SMS12.

The workaround I've been using is to upload my videos to YouTube then download them. The problem there is when I am working with 1080p, YouTube automatically drops the resolution to 720p, plus YouTube's conversion is a bit messy, so I lose quality.

Any thoughts on how to get the best of both worlds? Sound and Quality from the MP4 output of OBS? I'd like to be able to edit in SMS 12.

MP4 is a container, not a codec. You need to figure out what specifically isn't supported by your software so you know what to change. Is it the MP4 container in general? The AAC audio within the container?

Sorry, you're correct. MP4 is the container. It's the AAC most likely as I don't get sound from the output of Windows Movie Maker.

Then switch the audio codec in OBS to MP3, and/or convert the audio in your existing files from AAC to MP3 and just remux the video so you don't have any quality loss.

Generally its MP3 that doesn't work in Sony Vegas, and AAC works fine.

Also check that you have Constant Frame Rate enabled, i.e. checked on. Sony Vegas is unable to import video files with a variable frame rate.

Also check that you're not using certain custom x264 commands. There are some, like open-gop, that will make it so that Vegas can't read your file.

I all else fails, upload a small sample video file that exhibits the problem to a file sharing site so that we can test it ourselves and see why its not working.

Sorry for the delay. So, I tweaked settings and set it to AAC. I thought I had it in AAC originally. Now things are working fairly well. I just have issues with Windows Media Player planing the MP4 (H.264/AAC) output. VLC works just fine and so does Sony Vegas.
