Question / Help OBS Help would be appreciated =)

Hi =D

I have recently started streaming and I am encountering an unusual issue that I have tried all I can to fix, but to no avail.

I get an increasing number of dropped frames as my stream goes on it isn't my internet dying (as i can use the upload to steam broadcast during these times). But, it isn't a setting issue either as far as i can tell. I have tried turning twitch alerts off and it didn't help either. I am using an ethernet cable and no Wi-Fi as well. Sometimes if i stop streaming and wait a minute and then restart streaming it works again, but only for a while before the frames slowly start dropping at an increasing rate.

I have tried OBS and OBS studio and both are the same. I have a log from one of my last broadcasts that maybe someone can help me understand and perhaps see an issue in it that could cause the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Harold =D Here is the shots from that test. Btw, I connect to the Australian Server in Sydney since I live in QLD Australia. I did try switching servers to fix the issue and that didn't work. But here are the results.

I had to take two shots since the scrolling meant some were cut off, but hey at least i tested them all xD

Here are some speed test results to boot

During peak times my results do drop a bit lower but not by much, maybe down to like 1.5mb upload. But, with this said I do use a suitable bit rate and am aware the quality of my stream isn't great. I let encoding help me out and my CPU doesn't work hard at the settings I have. It sits at the highest of 40% playing Borderlands 2 which is what i'm streaming at the moment.

What do you mean? I can stream decent quality and have viewers that come to watch. They understand my bitrate limitations but still want to watch. The issue is the dropping that occurs randomly (but normally after 20minutes and onwards) and the fact that it isn't my internet dying that is causing it.

I understand that it might not be the best quality stream but I would like help to try and solve this particular issue. If the servers are not good enough for me to use then how is it I CAN and DO use the Sydney one successfully for periods of time?

So it is that which causes this problem? I would have thought that if it was the routes, well... that it would be shit the whole time i cast and not randomly as time goes on. Also why would resetting/restarting OBS after a minute or so often fix it for some time? Like i said before, it is something that gets worse as the stream goes.

I want to understand as well, so if you could try to explain more as to what is happening and why that would be appreciated.

Anything below a score of 80 should not be used if possible. You want 90+ if one is available.

To address an earlier post, speedtest.net measures a different kind of connection than streaming uses. It's completely worthless for livestreamers, other than saying that yes, you have a connection to the internet.

I see. Well would it be this bad score that is causing the frame drops that increase as the stream goes on (as in it will drop one here and there but then gets worse and starts dropping more at a time more frequently as it goes on)? I thought it would give me a bad dropping issue the whole time. Also, why is it that resetting OBS can stop it from dropping frames for some time until it starts again?

Is there nothing I can do since it's an ISP thing? I mean i tried to raise the poor routes to the twitch ingest server with them last week and they didn't understand what i was saying and kept telling me that they ran tests on the Twitch website and it was working fine.... even though i said i wasn't having issues connecting to the twitch website and it was the ingest server instead. They had NO idea what i was telling them =(

Show us OBS logs?

Try to get a better ISP (internet service provider) or maybe get a better speed from your current ISP.
Some ISP have problems with their service get overloaded and slowed down during peak hours.
