I used to have a problem where, when I tried to finish/stop the .mp4 recording, that the program would just keep showing the "stopping recording" message...without actually stopping. Result was video lost. By pressing and holding the buttons down for a few seconds, whether for stopping or starting, that reduced the frequency of the problem by over 90%. A workable solution, but not perfect. So I continued experimenting until I found the problem....at least with MY system. The problem turns out to not actually be with the OBS program, but in background running programs that introduce pauses and delays in the computer as it sets up recording to the medium (that you've aimed it at). Most notable are the anti-virus programs. These delays can prevent the OBS program from properly setting up the recording parameters as it should. So your recording doesn't actually get set up correctly and your recording can be "dead" at that point...you just don't know it yet. If you are inquisitive, check the time difference of reading/writing large files when you have your virus software on and off. Mine has a several second time difference between protection ON and protection OFF (Norton).
So, now I turn off my anti virus protection (after disconnecting the internet, of course) whenever making recordings and have had ZERO recording losses since then. ZERO....for MONTHS now.
