OBS Getting Stuck in Background

Alright, so far, while still using the AMD encoder H264/AVC, I changed the Process priority in the advanced settings to "Above Normal" and tested stopping and starting recording while in a game multiple times and then exiting OBS and it ACTUALLY exits itself and is ready to record again when relaunched without ending the process through task manager. So far this change is working. Hope this helps anyone else having this same issue in Windows 10

For me, the video was too choppy/pixelated. I couldn't deal with that. So keeping the AMD encoder with the process priority higher seems to be working for at the moment and no video quality lost.

I did that last night, it didn't solve the issue for me. And it's still the same.

On mine it's working with the "Above Normal" setting. On my GF's machine (which has the exact same hardware) it's not working. I adjusted that above normal setting to "High" and it is now working on hers.

I'll try that. Did you restarted your PC or your GF's PC?

ok. OR changing to a different recording software. If all you are doing is recording, then bandicam is a pretty good alternative even though it's paid. It's not breaking the bank but it works flawlessly. AND it still uses hardware acceleration.

This is an old thread but one simple thing you could do as well is get in the habit of exiting OBS using the tray icon instead of the exit button in the UI. I'm not sure why it was encouraged to not use the hardware encoder but you should ALWAYS use the hardware encoder. Especially if you're streaming and gaming on the same system.
