Just created an account to let you guys know that (after months of despair) this was the solution for me.
I've had the crashes (as described above) every 5 - 60 minutes with some exceptions where it lasted about 2-3 hrs).
I haven't had a single crash since disabling gpu hardware accelerated scheduling.
