Question / Help OBS for recording training sessions- switching programmes while doing

I understand OBS can be effectively used to save training sessions, which include own lectures( through webcam) , ppts, spreadsheets etc, which have to be called from time to time. Will a 'display capture' suffice for this ? That case, will the screen have tabs switching to all the above applications available on the main screen ?

Your computer is exactly the same as always, just the desktop screen as you see it is being recorded to some file or stream. No different handling of apps and app switching.

But for using screen as the input:
1. You should tell OBS to select screen as input - how ?
2. I switch between programs, but OBS does same old recording. I feel my set up is not done correct. Anyone can tell the steps involved ?

In short: to record "the screen", you use a "display capture" source. To record the main window of one app only, you use "window capture" source. To record a 3D (directx) game, you use a "game capture" source.
