Question / Help OBS Extremely diminishing FPS whilst streaming

Hello! I'm new to streaming and was trying to check different things to do so. I had started streaming using NVidia Broadcasting, and everything was fine. So I went further as to start using OBS in order to add the customizable options as stream overlays, webcams and whatever. I mainly plan to stream e-sports titles as they're the ones I have the most fun with. I encountered an issue where for example Overwatch's performance is getting reduced to about 50% the avg fps I get when OBS is not broadcasting. Usually Overwatch runs at 140-120fps and when streaming I get it strongly reduced, even as low as 30fps and it's really stuttery.

This did not happen using nvidia software, I was able to maintain 100+fps.

I have used a lot of youtube tutorials and nothing helps. Also I don't seem to be able to capture any sources using game mode, only using window capture and having games borderless.

My system is the following:
Dell Inspiron 15 7567
i7-7700HQ
GTX 1050 Ti
8GB DDR4 2400 RAM
Win 10

Very much thanks in advance!

its impossible to stream overwatch with a 7700hq you need much more powerful processor if you want to do both at the same time. You can try the NVENC encoding and will help but no way on x264 encoder.

nvidia software works because it is using the NVENC encoder built-in to your graphics card you can choose the NVENC encoder in OBS to have similar experience

Note: I previously had the desktop version i7-7700k overclocked to 5.0GHz and could barely stream 720p60 and you have the laptop version which is about half as powerful.

This does not sound right. I broadcast 8hr+ eSports events using an i7-3770 at 720p60 while working in Illustrator and Chrome without ever maxing out CPU usage. Obviously if I'm playing a game on the PC while streaming it takes a hit but nowhere near as substantial as you're saying. What are your other specs and settings?
