Hey, I got the same issue with another program than OBS. My solution to the problem is rather simple after seeking on the internet. Nothing works.... stupid installer!
My error code for my licenced application/program update was:
Extract: error writing to file C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\somefile.tmp\____________SOME_____.dll
I use windows updated. dll files are common instruction files that are needed by multiple programs. Disclaimer!! fixingproblens is at your own risk. But this worked for me.
My program was already installed in the first place so I Only uggest this fix when the program was already installed but just needed a update. (and the installer of the update gives the error)
Here you go:
1 - copy the installer of the program, that you'll needed but gave the annoying error, to the C-drive root directory c:\> and accept the copy by admin.
2 - open prompt as an administrator!
3 - type cd\ + enter
4 - go to the filebrowser and rename the installer shorter with no spaces; if needed like exampleinstaller.exe or anything else accept the rename.
5 - go back to prompt and enter the (new shorter/other) name of your installer file after c:\> something like exampleinstaller.exe en hit enter
6 - then you're working in your protected system drive with permissions and your operating as an admin and execute the installer; after the installation, type exit and start your updated software program to see if it's done!
7 - my lucky number; problem solved!
DISCLAIMER: try at your own risk, but it worked for me without powershell etc. I just warn because all systems can by slightly different and if you have old outdated computer then there are more risk then a fresh update one.
Good Luck! Cheers!
