Question / Help OBS Dropping Crazy Frames/Twitch Server Connection Issues

Hey there,

First time post. I've checked around the forums and haven't found a solution. (Yes I tried the thread about checking there first)

Basically I've had crazy dropped frames within the last month and a half. I used to stream 720p 60 FPS and as of recent have lowered to 30FPS (which hasn't helped much). I have 100 DL, 5 UL which has never produced problems until recently and bought a brand new computer last November with the top stuff. It seems that out of nowhere I have been having issues connecting to the servers or something as my stream connection just flickers the entire time from Green to Red and drops a massive amount of frames. I have since checked off Minimize Network Impact which has helped a bit but it still flickers like crazy and I never had to check that off before. Also tried setting OBS to high priority in the task manager but hasn't helped.

Stream Computer specs:
  • CPU: i7 4770k
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3
  • GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 980 TwinFrozr V
  • Stream Cam: Logitech C920
  • Game Capture: Elgato HD PVR

Here's a log: https://gist.github.com/15a3b37fffc16a53ce90

I have more logs if you would like to check but I have zero idea what to look for.

I also did a bandwidth test (picture attached).

I have lost confidence in streaming at all since it's so unstable. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Shaw.
Only thing I've noticed is that while this dropped frames is happening my Ping is extremely high.
However my UP is still over 100 and DL is 5+.

Ideally, you want quality numbers in the high 90s to stream. It very quickly becomes unusable once you start dipping below 90 in the quality column.

Try the twitchtest utility with all regions enabled.

I did do that, check the original post.
When I was streaming my Ping was over 100. Now it's back to 8. OBS is for some reason spiking my ping, which I think is creating the lag.

Would you mind doing one more test (US only is fine for this one) with the "TCP Window Size" option set to system default instead of automatic? Don't even need to post a screenshot, just let us know if the quality values improve or are effectively unchanged.

Indeed! There is a corresponding option in OBS which sometimes needs to be turned on to deal with misbehaving network hardware. Not the case here it seems.

If you've done the steps in the troubleshooting thread (including installing the latest Realtek drivers for your network card) with no improvement, all that's left is to test with a different program like XSplit and then call your ISP if it exhibits the same behavior.

If you missed that step in the troubleshooting guide, consider going back and have another look to make sure there aren't any others you may have missed.

Alright so I updated the Realtek and didn't help a whole lot.
The weirdest thing is that sometimes I stream without and issues... other times it's just awful frame drops.

Here's the log after the Realtek update: https://gist.github.com/8ef5a3fb412eedff5fc9

Also this ShaperProbe link on the post about the dropped frames goes nowhere.

It's just strange that I could stream flawlessly for 2 years and then August comes and I drop crazy frames...

We need to remove the ShaperProbe link as the servers the tool tries to connect to are no longer around.

Would there be a possibility for me to test out a build that was available before Mid August to see if that's it? I don't know why it would be, but that's when the issues started happening.

Testing with a different program would be better. The number of times reverting to a previous version of OBS has fixed a network issue is approximately 0.
