OBS does not record/capture my mouse cursor. Please help!

Hi everyone,

I tried screen recording, specifically aiming to record my mouse cursor as well, so I can show people different locations on a map. I uploaded a picture map file to OBS. While OBS recorded the map and my video/camera, it did not capture the mouse cursor. I followed all the steps from ChatGPT, Google, and YouTube videos I found, but to no avail. FYI, it somehow recorded the mouse cursor when I recorded my second or extended monitor, but not from my main laptop monitor. BTW, I’m using a new Dell laptop with Windows 11.

I uploaded a picture map file to OBS.

This makes me wonder if you created an image source and displayed that image in the OBS preview. And then you expected OBS will capture the mouse while you're pointing at this image in the OBS preview. This will not work. OBS isn't able to interact with itself this way.

It will work if you load the image in some image viewer app, capture this app by OBS with window capture or display capture, then point to the image with your mouse in the image viewer app.

You are absolutely correct. I spent hours on YouTube, Google, and Chat GPT but to no avail. After following your instructions, I got it to work in just a few minutes. Thank you so much!!!!
