I’m having an ongoing issue using OBS to livestream on Whatnot and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out whether this is an OBS, network, or Whatnot server issue. OBS will sometimes stream perfectly fine to Whatnot for several hours. Then, without me intentionally changing anything, I start experiencing problems. My Whatnot show may suddenly appear inactive, I may appear as though I’m no longer present/live, auctions may stop working, and OBS may stop sending the stream to Whatnot. When this happens, OBS has displayed the following error:
“An unexpected error occurred when trying to connect to the server.”
The strange part is that this does not normally happen when initially starting the stream. OBS can already be successfully connected and streaming for minutes or even hours before the problem occurs.
I have gone through and double-checked my OBS settings as well as Whatnot’s recommended OBS settings, and I have not found anything obviously incorrect.
Has anyone experienced a situation where OBS successfully streams and then suddenly loses its connection to the streaming server?
I’m trying to determine whether this could be caused by OBS, intermittent packet loss/network instability, the Whatnot streaming server/WHIP connection, or something else. If there are specific OBS logs or diagnostic information that would help identify exactly where the connection is failing, please let me know what I should provide.
