Monitor capture on laptops using windows 8 is known to have driver issues. This is actually the fault of the laptop switchable graphics drivers more than anything. They're just unstable. An untested area of the drivers. You could try changing the active device in nvidia control panel, but I'm not entirely sure if that works or if it produces a black screen depending on the laptop. Quite painful actually.

Currently solution: Use a different type of capture, such as window capture or game capture. It sucks, but it's at least an option.

I'm having the problem where I use Window Capture and it just shows a black box on it. Any solution to that?

What are you capturing with window capture? Minecraft? You really need game capture for that. If you're capturing twitch chat, then it's kind of a different issue.

Well this certainly isn't a good situation. I'm not entirely sure what to suggest -- were you capturing those windows before with window capture? Or is that a new capture?

It's a completely new capture and it just shows a black screen -- i've also tried to uninstall and re-install obs just to make sure i haven't pooped up the settings, and still the same thing.

Reinstalling OBS doesn't do anything because settings are always preserved (though we're adding an option to remove settings in the uninstaller next version).

Anyway, I don't know what to suggest right now, you are capturing spotify and twitch chat? I'm pretty sure those things have issue with window capture because they're flash. You may have to try to capture a different browser or turn flash hardware acceleration off
