Bug Report OBS crashing/ruining visuals

I'm having problems streaming a game called Baldurs Gate Enhanced with OBS. It works fine when I use the other unnamable streaming application but I really hate playing it in Windowed mode.

I've read some things about OBS crashing peoples games and most people point to other overlaying software running. I have none of that, only steam which shouldn't be a problem. Often times it crashes the game but most of the time it just completely mangles the UI. My video card is fine and I can stream fine with other programs. I'm not sure why OBS clashes with this game so much ....

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like without Previewing/Streaming with OBS - http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b27/R ... 889fa1.png
Here's a screenshot of what happens when I Preview stream/Actually stream with OBS - http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b27/R ... 72f442.jpg

ANy insight? I actually heard earlier versions of OBS are less buggy, would it be a good idea to go that route and try older, bug free versions?

Thanks for any help

I'm pretty sure current versions of OBS are less buggy than older versions. What method are you using to capture Baldur's Gate, if not Window capture? Because I'm pretty sure Game capture doesn't work on that game.

Window capture isn't an option - when I go to select the Baldurs Gate window it doesn't appear on there, even when I click refresh

Game capture works to an extent, but on certain cut scenes it triggers the crazy glitching. It doesn't do this with other programs.

Pretty sure game capture should work. I'd like to figure out how to capture the Baldurs Gate Window and try that.. any ideas why it wouldn't appear on the Window tab even after clicking refresh?

Game capture works on this game.

It's Baldurs Gate Enhanced, it was released last year. It's not the version from 1998. Everything runs fine until you trigger a cutscene then it completely mangles the UI. I don't understand why it only happens with OBS and not other programs. I desperately want to find out ... :(

Hmm, well, it looks weird. This may be a bug, so I'll move this post to Bug reports just in case.

Ok thanks. I don't think many people stream this game at all so I'm not really expecting a solution

guess my only option is some other unnamable streaming application

thanks for the replies though dodge

I asked around on the Baldurs Gate forums and one guy had this to say

"It's not an in-game bug, but a bug with the software because the software loses grip on the OpenGL 2D context which is temporarily suspended during cutscenes which in turn results in texture stranginess."

I have this game, give me a bit to check it out, it should have been working last I recall, will report back in a bit

(edit - er, 1.8gig update, wasn't expecting that)

Hey, thank you for pointing this out - I think I know what the problem is, although it doesn't happen on this video card, I actually just realized what code is probably causing this to happen. I'll try to fix it for the next update.

ok thanks lmk

one guy told me "perhaps it's using integrated graphics
» make sure to set your main GPU to be used for baldur.exe"

not sure what he means by setting my main GPU to baldur.exe though

Try 0.582. I made some opengl-specific fixes. Also, are you on a laptop? If so both BGEE and OBS need to be running on the same graphics adapter.
