OBS crashing nearly every time I switch scene Collections

The bug was addressed by
and seems to be solved in developer builds of OBS (at least it didn't occur in my setup, I used "obs-studio-windows-x64-645e31fa1" from the build automation on github).

to the OP...so you know you are not alone in this. I updated to 29.1.1 on wednesday...and since then OBS is crashing like crazy. First time since 2020. Im not switching scene collections though...it just happens at random times...2 times it happened the moment I started a livestream.
A breakpoint has been reached 0xe0000003 or ...
Exception Unknown software exception 0xe0000008

Something happened with the last update. I uninstalled StreamFX, NDI and tried to uninstall SE.Live (that f'...thing refuses to go, uninstallation gets stuck on "Failed to restore OBS 29.1" but at least obs doesnt show it in the list of not working plugins anymore) ...those are the plugins that stopped working since OBS28...I hope this solves the problem. But there is clearly something happening with this last update.

Thanks for the info, maybe I'll hold off a bit on trying to delete/re-import scenes etc and see if an update fixes it. I don't actually typically switch scene collections a lot since I primarily stream a single title. I just happened to notice this because I was making sure I was ready for the Diablo 4 event this weekend and switching my scene collection to prep for it.

I'm experiencing similar issues since updating to v. 29.1.1. Initially OBS started to crash when I tried to duplicate scene collections. Now I'm experiencing crashes every time, as soon as I try to run OBS... Everything worked perfectly fine before the update.

Are the devs aware of the issue?

I'm attaching the log file.

you are having an issue caused by an out of date version of the tuna plugin, which is not actually similar enough to warrant your issue being in this thread.

That isn't a crash, that's an error message - very different things. As the message says, plugins are usually responsible for this issue as they hold onto sources from the current scene collection, preventing them from unloading when you try to switch collections. Update or remove any 3rd party plugins to see if it helps. Per the log file, something is affecting these sources in particular:

14:54:39.681: Not all sources were cleared when clearing scene data:
14:54:39.681:
14:54:39.681: - Yeti Mic
14:54:39.681: - Steelseries Mic
14:54:39.681: - Logitech webcam
So I was having this same issue and did a fair amount of trial and error testing and what I found was that having my audio sources exclusive in a scene by themselves, which other scenes referenced to get their audio. When you switched scene collections while on a scene doing this to a scene with any browser source it was causing these errors and causing the data not to clear. Removing the audio scene and having the sources individually had temporarily fixed my issue.

We are using OBS since V27 and having fun with the OBS software. We use it for church streaming every sunday.
We also use Move transition, PTZ control, Lower thirds and Durchblik.
We have had a lot of problems changing the scene collection ever since V29.1 . We chanced back to V29.0.2.
Have been investigating the problem and after >5 hrs i deleted Durchblik, the problem was solved.
So the try and error like ItsHybridOne suggested worked for us. Thanks to ItsHybridOne.
now let try to convince the software engineer to fix Durchblik.

Just to make sure to support all of you finding this thread - you are not crazy, and hopefully you will not be ignored or gaslighted. Yes, this is a thing. I used to hold back to OBS Studio v27.x for plugin reasons. That version was super stable for the most part! Almost never crashed, no matter what crazy plugins or filters I threw at it (other than issues that everyone knows about and avoids, like having to close after changing to certain user-defined filters and re-opening). I recently decided to upload to the latest version, and I chose the portable installation option. It crashes every single time I either 1) try to create a new scene collection, or 2) try to switch to another scene collection. By "crash," I mean OBS Studio instantly closes, no error message, nothing. It's just gone. When I re-open, OBS seems to be unaware of the crash and doesn't present the report error dialog. This happens 100% of every time I try to change or create scene collections. I have precisely the same setup of scenes, filters and plugins I previously used without crashing in v27.x. I did a Google search and found MANY results of people reporting this issue on this forum. I'm replying to one of the many threads to show support. Perhaps if it gets mentioned enough times by enough users, the devs might look into it more seriously. From the responses it feels like those who report it are being "blamed," which is a bit rude. I understand it's a complex issue though. OBS has become a crazy complicated behemoth! I can't imagine trying to find random bugs in code these days. I used to be a developer of sorts, and I know how frustrating it can be to have an issue, and the easiest solution is to blame others instead of realizing there actually could be something in the code causing it, but it's buried so deep it's hard to find. And on an open source project, I also understand the appreciation & reward concepts being a bit dry. I'm actually amazed at OBS and all it can do these days. It's bound to have issues here and there. I might try rolling back a minor version or two to see if the problem is solved for me. Cuz it SUCKS not to be able to have multiple profiles and scene collections for my situation.

For the record, in my case it does not produce a log file with a recent timestamp. OBS completely closes, but no file is generated for the incident in the config folder. The only reason I upgraded from 27 to latest (29.1.3 is what I have installed rn) is because I was having an annoying issue where it would take like 5 or 10 minutes to load the settings dialog in v27 (27.2.4 if I remember right). The latest version has fixed this issue. That settings issue might relate to having many scenes and hotkey tab, from what I've read. Anyway, I'll probably roll back to an earlier 29.x to see if it fixes the scene collection issue. I'll probably also try the regular installation instead of portable. I tried portable to theoretically keep 27 and 29 simultaneously in case I needed to switch between them. That didn't work out for me. I'm no expert at multiple OBS installations by any means.

@PhLo it looks like you have incompatible plugin. The only way I know, how to find which one is - is to add them one by one and check OBS behavior after each install. Only then you can give useful info to the developers. That info, potentially, can point to the issue in the OBS code (or point to wrong use of it).

That could very well be. I haven't been streaming lately, and therefore, not using OBS. If I ever get back into it, I'll do my best to troubleshoot that potential issue and report back if I find an offending plugin.
